Garden City Speeding Ticket Lawyer
Representing Nassau County clients facing the consequences of speeding tickets
When hurrying from point A to point B, you may not be attentive to your speedometer. Speed quickly rises as you go down the road, leading to the potential for a speeding ticket. Depending on the circumstances, a speeding ticket can have some serious consequences based on your speed and where you were caught. It is important to retain a lawyer with extensive knowledge of the court system in which your ticket will be addressed. The attorneys at Grunwald & Seman, P.C. have over 25 years of experience defending the interests of our clients and helping them downgrade or avoid charges in the courts of Nassau County and Long Island. If you need our legal services, contact our Garden City office for a consultation.
Points and your speeding ticket
Officers across the state of New York follow the same guidelines to categorize speeding violations. If you are found guilty and issued the points from your ticket, the points will go on your driving record for 18 months unless you are issued a ticket again within the allotted time. The most important factor for most is that as points rise, insurance companies will use that information to increase premiums, financially impacting your future.
- 3 point violation: 1-10 miles per hour over the speed limit
- 4 point violation: 11-20 miles per hour over the speed limit
- 6 point violation: 21-30 miles per hour over the speed limit
- 8 point violation: 31-40 miles per hour over the speed limit
- 11 point violation: Excess of 41 miles per hour over the speed limit
If you receive 11 points within an 18 month period, your license will be suspended.
The cost of speeding tickets
The cost of your ticket will vary based on your speed and where you were issued the ticket. If you are found guilty of speeding in New York City, you will most likely not pay the same fine as a ticket issued in Garden City or Hempstead. Furthermore, you will not face the same fines in upstate NY as you would on Long Island. If you receive 6 or more points on your driving record within 18 months, you are subject to an addition fines called a Driver Responsibility Assessment. This fine is $100 every year for 3 years. In addition, every point over 6 points will subject you to an extra $25 fine.
