Our traffic ticket lawyers defend clients charged with any traffic offenses, including:
The fines and penalties have recently increased due to the enactment of the New York State Drivers Responsibility Act. The new law imposes additional fines imposed after conviction by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Tempted to Just Pay the Fine? Think Twice! If you plead guilty to a traffic offense such as a speeding ticket, your insurance rates will probably go up. You will also lose points on your driving license. If you have three speeding tickets within an 18 month period, for example, your license can be revoked. Our traffic ticket lawyers are experienced in plea negotiations. Our goal is to obtain a reduction in the violation to a violation that will have the least impact on your driver’s license points and your auto insurance costs. If you have past violations that have not been resolved, our lawyers can work the New York DMV and the local municipalities to clear those tickets to help keep your driver’s license from being suspended or revoked. Out-of-State Traffic Ticket? Answer It Immediately!A licensed New York State driver must respond to a ticket for a moving violation issued out-of-state or face the suspension of his license. Your license will be suspended until your answer the ticket or pay the fine. A ticket for a moving violation while driving in a state other than New York will never appear on your license if you promptly answer the ticket. The NYS Department of Motor Vehicles does not record out-of-state convictions committed by NY drivers who answer in the time set out on the ticket. The points — no matter how high they are — will not be added to your record of convictions. There are exceptions to the above rule. If your “ticket” is for an alcohol or drug related violation then New York will ultimately be notified and you will pay the consequences, which will include the revocation of your driving privileges for at least 90 days depending upon your conviction. This includes Driving After Suspension/Revocation for a drunk driving offense (Aggravated Unlicensed Operation).
