No blood alcohol calculator can be trusted entirely as a sole indicator of your blood alcohol content and your ability to drive. Many factors, such as age, metabolism level, gender, medications, food in your stomach, and other factors may alter your actual BAC. However, your estimated blood alcohol content can be calculated by following these directions:
- Locate your weight in the chart below and the corresponding number of drinks which you have had thus far.
- As alcohol burns up over time as your body metabolizes, it is necessary to subtract the alcohol burned over time from the number in the chart. In most people, alcohol is burned off at a rate of .015% per hour.
Example: If you weigh 160 pounds and have had 4 drinks in 3 hours, you would calculate your estimated BAC as follows:
- 160 pound individual having 3 drinks = .094%
- Multiply: .015 x 3 to get percent of alcohol burned off = .045%
- Subtract: .094% - .045%
- Estimated BAC: .049
